Ketubah Texts
“From every human being there rises a light that reaches straight to heaven. And when two souls that are destined to be together find each other, a single brighter light goes from their united being.” – Baal Shem Tov
EleyOri works with couples with all sorts of religious or non-religious and cultural backgrounds from the very traditional to the modern and alternative.
The options for Ketubah texts can seem endless. To make it easy, EleyOri offers a succinct and comprehensive selection of text types that are easy to tailor to your specific requirements and vision. The Ketubah text you select should be informed by the type of ceremony you are having and should be something you discuss with your officiant before making a selection. More modern or alternative ceremonies will allow for greater flexibility and customization in the text selection.
Note that any changes or revisions that you may want to make to your text are included in the purchase price.
*A little tip from EleyOri- You don't necessarily have to pay attention to the titles, just take your time to read the texts and pick the one that speaks to your heart.
MODERN KETUBAH TEXTS
I am often asked if you must be Jewish to have a Ketubah. The answer is, absolutely not! Regardless of your religious affiliation you can incorporate the concept of this beautiful tradition into your non-Jewish, interfaith, multicultural, same sex or secular wedding ceremony.
EleyOri provides texts that are appropriate for couples of all faiths and backgrounds, including “English Only” and “Mix and Max” text options.
REFORM Translations: Hebrew and English (✓ Mix and Match)
This text option is designed for couples who subscribe to mainstream Reform Judaism.
Reform texts are written in modern Hebrew and English with the English being an exact translation of the Hebrew.
INTERFAITH Translations: Hebrew and English (✓ Mix and Match).
The modern Ketubah is the perfect symbol of a union between two different religions, traditions, cultures and families. It easily accommodates both religious and/or cultural backgrounds in a fluid and meaningful way.
SECULAR
Translations: Hebrew and English (✓ Mix and Match)
This text option incorporates unique and inclusive elements that reflect your values and love. It is a beautiful symbol of the new traditions you will create as a couple and offers an elegant combination of old and new. The text can be tailored to accommodate masculine, feminine or gender neutral versions.
NON - BINARY TEXTS
Translations: Hebrew and English (✓ Mix and Match)
This text option incorporates unique and inclusive elements that reflect your values and love. It is a beautiful symbol of the new traditions you will create as a couple and offers an elegant combination of old and new. The text can be tailored to accommodate masculine, feminine or gender neutral versions.
TRADITIONAL KETUBAH TEXTS
ORTHODOX
Translations: Aramaic only
The Orthodox text is written in Aramaic, a Semitic language closely related to Hebrew. It can also be available with an English section. The English portion of the Ketubah is not a translation of the Aramaic, rather, it describes the circumstances of the wedding (date, location, name of the couple).
SEPHARDIC
Translations: Aramaic only
The Sephardic text is the text required by most wedding officiants who are affiliated with the Sephardic movement. This text is based on wording from the Talmud Yerushalmi and is written entirely in Aramaic. The text does not include an English section.
CONSERVATIVE
Translations: Aramaic Only
The Conservative Ketubah text is offered in Aramaic with custom text in English. It is essentially the same as the Orthodox text and thus is written in Aramaic. However, the Conservative text includes an additional provision called the Lieberman Clause.
It is strongly recommended that you have your Ketubah proofread by your rabbi or cantor.
WRITE YOUR OWN
CUSTOM TEXT
Translations: Hebrew and English (✓ Mix and Match)
This text option is for couples who wish to use their own wording rather than one of the standard texts offered by EleyOri. I will work with you to transform your wedding/commitment vows into a work of art that speaks to your values and personality as a lasting work of art.
